Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, better known as MBSR is a way of being that originates from the eastern practice of Mindfulness Meditation. Westernized in it’s philosophies and practice, MBSR was made famous by Boston Scientist and Writer, Jon Kabat-Zinn M.D.

Zen like in it’s approach to staying “in the moment” and not regressing into fruitless reliving of the past or wasting time and energy worrying about future events that have yet to be – and may never be, the only moment that we can exercise any control over is NOW.

By learning Mindfulness through a series of exercises and contemplations that help us access the NOW with ease and precision, a great deal of tension resulting from anxiety and worry can be let go of.

Spirituality is often weaved into Mindfulness where participants of an MBSR class connect with sensations in both their bodies and minds whilst guided through meditative techniques that prove to be simple to understand and rapid to effectively incorporate in comparison to many of the other less popular techniques of meditation requiring a much higher degree of mind control.

At ADIM, we find spirituality is not essential to reap the rewards that relaxation and focusing one’s mind can achieve

Mastering mind control can be frequently frustrating to less disciplined students simply wishing to become more connected to life in a way that eases suffering of any kind. Mindfulness does not require the cessation of thought, merely the acceptance and passive observation of thinking as it occurs.

Dr. Kabat-Zinn originally developed his 8 week training program in response to the growing number of Americans that he encountered who were suffering from chronic pain and illnesses. Today, people all over the world involve themselves in MBSR classes for a variety of reasons, not just to alleviate their pain and suffering.

ADIM’s MindFocus™ instructors are trained in several disciplines of meditation such as MBSR and are available to conduct programs for both groups and individuals. Since everyone has different requirements and levels of understanding, we prefer to cater instruction to the individual’s needs, pooling techniques and theory from the most useful modalities of meditation and ensuring that the best interests of each of our clients is accounted for.

Our unique MindFocus™ course is geared far more towards optimum health, peak performance and a maximized mind rather than concentrating on spirituality and other less tangible benefits.
